Marina/Esther – sneak preview 1×04

[you know it's almost Christmas when your ex outs you at work]
Note:
[this sneak preview is a translation of BAM's "on the fly" transcript. It contains the crucial, but not necessarily all Marina/Esther relevant moments of this episode; there will most likely be additions and/or corrections later. - If you want to quote these translations elsewhere, you are welcome to do so, as long as you link back to this original post and credit the creators (i.e. BAM and Nordica)] - A huge thank you goes to BAM for sitting down for two hours transcribing after the episode to make this sneak preview possible!
Updated Sept. 22nd: Courtesy of AuntieCallisto from the IBD board, who graciously provided transcripts for the two scenes that I had only listed before, this preview has been extended further.
Scene 1
[Marina and Esther are treating a child; towards the end, they are talking to each other]
M: So in the end, what are you doing during the Christmas vacations? Are you coming to the mountains with me?
E: Hmm… I like the idea. With how you’ve described it, it has to be incredible.
M: Yes, it’s a paradise.
E: But can you see me with skiers on my feet? Come on, I never even went sleigh riding!
M: But you don’t have to go skiing if you don’t want to, there’s a lot of litle villages to go at Christmas, we could… [her cell phone rings] Yes. No, listen, I’m working right now. – Listen… Look, I told you I can’t, and in addition, I’ve got to go now, listen, please… I’m sorry!
…
Scene 2
[Admissions (?). A woman talking on her cell phone, it is Marina's ex, Vera.]
M: [calling out for a patient] Is a Luca Monesi here?
V: Doctor, at last! It’s been a long time, I had already given up hope.
M: Listen, what are you doing here?
V: Aah, what a question? – Waiting, or what do you think? For you.
M: Listen, I’ve got no time right now.
V: But you can’t avoid me forever, can you now? – I’m just asking you for a few minutes…
M: Vera, I’m working, don’t you see that?
V: Fine, work. I’m not going anywhere until we have talked!
M: [taking her by the arm] Come with me.
…
Scene 3
[Vera and Marina in an office. They are in an embrace; Vera runs a hand along Marina's collar.]
M: Vera, why are you doing that [she withdraws] We’ve suffered enough already!
V: Look how you’re on the run and… [she caresses Marina's face]
M: [moving away] I’m not on the run, I’m just trying to find a bit of peace and happiness again. It wasn’t me who wanted us to break up, remember?
V: Yes, yes I do remember.
M: And yet, I’ve come to accept it. – Do you believe it’s been easy for me to start over again?
V: Listen… losing you has made me understand a lot of things. How much… how stupid and cowardish I’ve been, just like you said. I can’t imagine now that I used to be ashamed of what we had, and of what we were, you and I… What can I do about it? – I was unhappy at times, but never as unhappy as I am now.
M: Now! – Do you know for how long I’ve waited for you? – For weeks… I’ve given you time. – Now, it’s too late. It’s over.
V: I don’t believe that.
M: I’m telling you, it’s over.
V: Listen to me, Marina [she is taking Marina's arm] look me in the eye. I’ve changed. Look at. me Look at me, I truly have changed. If you want me to, I’ll demonstrate it – I’m at a point where I where I could go out and tell to the first person who happens to walk by that I love you.
M: Lower your voice…
V: Sorry.
[in this moment, Teresa begins to walk down the hallway, following a patient to bring something after her that she left on then bench where she had been sitting]
V: Let’s do it like this: if it’s really over [she is caressing Marina's face] then you have to tell me so looking me in the eye, hmm? And I will leave. [Marina looks at her.] There, see? You can’t do it…
[in this moment, Teresa passes by the office door and sees Marina and Vera who are almost kissing.]
M: [withdrawing]: Let me go… it’s over, Vera. I’m sorry.
…
Scene 4 [transcript by AuntieCallisto]
[a crying Giulia walks into the bathroom to find Marina, who is also crying]
G: Doctor Ranieri…
M: Yes.
G: Pardon me…
M: Of course.
G: Is everything all right?
M: Yes, yes… it’s just a moment. [a pause] I don’t know, it’s probably because it’s Christmas.
G: Yes, it has the same effect on me.
[Marina looks for a paper towel to dry her face, but doesn't find any.]
G: Wait, take this. [she offers her a tissue]
M. Thanks.
G: Actually… wait, let’s do it like this. We’ll simply split the package between us. Here you go.
M: Thanks.
…
Scene 5 [transcript by AuntieCallisto]
[Teresa tells Rocco about Marina and Vera]
T: I was just bringing the card after Mrs. Marcaccini, she had forgotten it and I saw them in the paramedics’ office. Anyone could have seen them, do you get that? If you ask me, something of this kind in a hospital… that’s not okay.
E: [walking up] Did the tests results of Prisca Morelli arrive?
T: What?
E. The results of Prisca Morelli.
T: Ah, yes. Here you go.
E: Thanks.
T: [continuing to talk to Rocco] …and the Ranieri was terribly embarrassed, she tried not to be seen, but… the other one, not at all. She even tried to kiss her, can you believe that?!
R: If you ask me, you’re watching too much TV, Terri.
T: It’s Teresa! – I saw those two perverts with my own eyes, a disgusting thing, I’m telling you. [she turns towards Esther] Now I understand why Miss Doctor is always all over you. Did she try it with you, as well?
E. No! Are you crazy? Absolutely not.
R: [to Teresa] You’re just about the Queen of being tactful, aren’t you?
…
Scene 6
[Changing room. Marina. Esther enters.]
E: Oh, sorry. I was looking for Santamaria.
M: He hasn’t been seen around here! [Esther is about to leave] Esther, will you tell me what is going on with you?
E: Nothing, it’s just that I’ve got a lot of work to do…
M: And it’s about what happened in there with that woman – I bet Teresa didn’t lose any time, did she?
E: No, what are you thinking? There’s nothing bad about it if you two… well, if you… are…
M: Gay, yes! I love women. And I have loved Vera very much. Does that make you so uncomfortable?
E: Why didn’t you tell me right away?
M: Because I was afraid you would react like this! Because I wanted you to get to know me, that we could go out together without any weird thoughts. – Esther, I wasn’t trying to lure you into my evil lair, but I just really care about your friendship.
E: Yours means a lot to me, as well…
M: You’re wearing an ‘S’, right? [she touches Esther's shoulders]
E: What?
M: You’re a size ‘S’. For the ski jacket, I want to give it to you as a gift.
E: Wait a moment… [she lifts Marina's hands from her shoulders]
M: What is it?
E: Marina, I’m really sorry, but I… I can’t accept your invitation, I’m really sorry…
…
Preview for episode 1×05 [not for the faint of heart!]: there’s a moment of Aldo showing up with a bunch of roses for Esther, and of Esther accepting them with a smile. Ugh.
…
This sneak preview has been made possible thanks to the Italian trascript by BAM (grazie mille!). Header screenshot made possible by the episode trailer uploaded by mary_iena. English translation: mine.
These translations/descriptions/sneak previews are just an Italian finger exercise of mine and try to cover the core scenes of Marina and Esther, which means that there may be video footage in the clips on YouTube that is not covered here. I do, however, try my best to include everything that is essential, for as long as I have the time and as long as the storyline is not steering into Barbie Torture or horrid “pregnancy/going back to men” stereotypes. There may be occasional glitches or mistakes – feel free to point them out in the comments.

Thanks for the translations. Man, I’m bummed for Marina.
I don’t know what to think of the trailer. I read an article in http://www.arcigay.com where Elisabetta Rocchetti said that they didn’t want to develop a lesbian relationship just because one woman had man problems. I guess they didn’t mention gay panic. Shoot.
Bumblebzz
Thank u so much Nortica & Bam. I’m a faithful & grateful follower of your transaltions. I’m so into Spanish HC & now Italian HC & I don’t speak a word of either language. So deeply grateful to u gals (including rachelm, anabel219, nissocati, whiteslander, HCHammer, etc) So far I could not find any translation for chica busca chica. Any chance of it being posted at IBD? U can find me at Youtube under account “bette1985″. Great to know u gals.
they didn’t want to develop a lesbian relationship …. Oh saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
they didn’t want to develop a lesbian relationship …. Oh saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
No, you misunderstand. They’re going to have a romantic relationship but not just because one has had bad relationships with men.
Oh… Great! (L) but…. and the Vatican? :O
@Soo: I’m not sure there’s any translation for Chica busca chica available; Im not watching it, so I can’t offer any translations, but perhaps someone else on IDB does? You could always ask around there.
@Bumblebzz: Poor Marina, indeed. Although I have to say, as tough as it may be to watch, I prefer the realistic approach of Esther freaking out and Teresa being a homophobic harpy to Esther just jumping into bed with Marina because she’s the next best thing available. To actually see Esther go through her emotions now, from panic to acceptance to conscious desire for a woman, might be a very interesting road.
@bill: I won’t tell the Vatican if you don’t do it… But in all honesty, I cannot stress enough how surprised I am that this storyline is making it onto Italian public prime time in the first place, with the influence that the catholic church still has there.
Thanks Nordie for the tip on new episode, I´ll translate it into spanish as usual, waiting for the YouTUbe clips. So far, defeated by the subtitling software, I´ll give it a new try this weekend. I´m too “cabezota”, indeed [subtitling software, mi@ editor, here we go!]
Is it possible that my beloved avatar is set to “lisadawn82″ by WordPress? LOL! OMG!

__________
Is that your avatar I stole? (Hangs head in shame)
Is that okay? Do I need to change it? I saw the picture somewhere and loved it so I’ sorry if I offended you.
@lisadawn82, it´s an image from the internet, taken from Women in Tango, can´t remember now the web page, I´ll try and find it, I must have it somewhere in the favourites. I ´ve adopted it as my “public” avatar in the M&E forum and in my blogsite, http://www.bairesily.blogspot.com, but I guess it´s all right you use it too, it´s public , isn´t it? Just a coincidence.
when can you upload the videos?, I would like to see it soon… thnx
@bill: I’m not the one uploading the videos. The friendly folks who upload the clips to YouTube are kissesbyitaly (extended version) and salohe20 (condensed version). I would expect the clips to get out by Tuesday. Then there is unikyou, who does a version with English subtitles, based on kissesbyitaly’s videos, which gets out a few days later.
Hey Nordica, a very enjoyable blog, and again thanks so much for taking the time and effort to provide us (added thanks to Bam and AuntieCallisto as well) with a sneak-peak of some key Marina/Esther moments. By the way, I’m impressed with your fluency in so many different languages, as my Italian is basically Nil, and while I can get by in Spanish I’m no way fluent. Anyway I’m much appreciative of all your work including your story Small steps, which is masterfully written… now I just need to find some time to catch up.
Take care.
Thanks Nordie and AuntieCallisto for the uptdates. I´ll update spanish version [translated from yours] in my blog.

some scene of the episode 4
Again, thanks for the transcripts. I’m so hooked on this show it embarrassing. Sheesh!
But about the program, it sounds like with the updated scenes, especially the one by the admit desk with Teresa that Esther automatically reacts like she doesn’t want to be painted gay by association with Marina. I wonder how the writers are going to get Esther and Marina through this.
i hate Teresa!!!
is bad!… and Esther is a rare girl :S
Toniiight!
