Marina/Esther – against the withdrawals XV

Yes. It’s official (as far as Italian TV schedule announcements and bus timetables can be official). “Terapia d’urgenza”, home to our Hospital Central rip-off pediatrician, Dr. Marina, and her last-see-kissing-the-living-daylights-out-of-her-in-an-elevator love interest and everyone’s favorite nurse, Esther, will be back on TV in the second half of June (yes, that is 2009 we are talking about) on RAI2.

The show will air in the same time slot it previously occupied, Friday nights at 9 p.m., taking over when E.R. finishes its run also on Italian TV (you know, the bus was a little late…) and makes room for more hospital floors, cuter scrubs (I <3 burgundy!), and some women over 30 who will make Friday nights a full-on weekend already:  “Miss Legs Morandini 2008″,  the “Mistress of the Boy Toy” and “Head Nurse doesn’t even begin to cover it”

The airing news is something that fellow TdU defender Lang diligently blogged about weeks ago already – and here’s the corresponding thread on the Italian board, citing Italian sources with the good news, here and here, with the latter openly referring to the die-hard and and dedicated TdU fans, many of them Marina/Esther shippers. Well, they fail to mention that last part, but we know it’s true. What, however, is NOT true, are the mentioned twenty unaired episodes. It’s only ten.

Still, that should give us enough screenshot material to make up a virtual Season 2!

The good news has immediately inspired a spark in the lately dormant fandom, most notably in some new videos by AJ81 – although her “House of” series joke might perhaps be more apparent to Italians:

Check AJ81′s YouTube channel for “The House of Danieli”, if you want to see a spin on the Morandini’s director.

AJ has also dedicated a video tribute to the trio infernale of Teresa, Rocco and Esther, commonly referred to on these pages as “Gossip Central”:

Other TdU related video releases as of late include a Gandini / Malosti clip collection, courtesy of maddecheao, and another complete rundown of the Marina/Esther storyline, courtesy of  altpatsat.

AJ’s latest offering in this roundup is another Marina Ranieri tribute video – and really, can there ever be enough?

On the topic of Marina and her actress: the girls of the Alessia Barela Fanclub (ABFC) have been busy and have completely revamped the fanclub (which is still linked to the forum, and a new chat so you can go after your favorite Italian pediatrician with both Sbarrels… ) – the webmistresses send their greetings and you can hop over here to check out the new design and the new sections, and than just take it from there… and by that, I mean in Italian, English or Spanish, as the fanclub as trilingualized itself; a concession that will be readily welcomed by the international fans. Also, you so don’t want to miss the slide show that presides over the photo section… here. And the video link collection is also worth a glance or two…

Added bonus? rishi06 has been doing the graphic work, so you’ll stumble over those cute ‘mangabarelas’ a lot:

Meanwhile, the fan fiction scene continues to be mostly Italian, among them  new entries like this one… With the re-airing date coming closer (I assume that RAI2 will repeat the first 8 episodes first before airing the new episodes), I hope that there will be inspirations for new stories in all kinds of languages abound – and for all kinds of other fan art!

Note: If you have any TdU fan art – music videos, icons, graphics, wallpapers, fan fiction, cartoons, character figurines folded origami style, etc. – that you would like to see included/mentioned in one of the next “Marina/Esther – Withdrawals” editions, post your links in the comments or leave me a message with “Marina/Esther” in the subject line at aniklachev [at] web [dot] de.

  1. Dear Anik,
I love you. I love you in a manner that is purely platonic and laced with admiration and gratitude ;-)

  19. Anik you doing so well posting the season2 TDU, but why is vera come between Marina and Esther huh complain “Vera, you back off” ..
i wanted to watching the video, can not wait the season2 video.

  20. @nettyevlina: since there will be no second season (unless the petition that the Italian board started will serve as a divine intervention), there will be no new video material.

This post on the airing of the second half of Season 1 (the only season there is) dates back to spring of 2009; the last episode of the series was aired in early September.
All there is at the moment is fan art and, on this blog, a little epilogue story that has (unfortunately!) no equivalent on film.
