Marina/Esther – sneak preview 1×11 (with videos)

[Clothes and Closets. And smiles.]
Note:
[this sneak preview is a translation of BAM's "on the fly" transcript. It contains the crucial, but not necessarily all Marina/Esther relevant moments of this episode; there will most likely be additions and/or corrections later. - If you want to quote these translations elsewhere, you are welcome to do so, as long as you link back to this original post and credit the creators (i.e. BAM and Nordica)]
A Spanish version of these transcripts can usually be found at Sam’s blog, a Chinese version at the Chinese Marina/Esther forum (forward to last page), within 24 hours of the English post. Videos, with many thanks to AuntieCallisto, embedded below.)
Scene 1
[Esther arrives at the hospital]
E: girls, what a downpour! Terry, that hairstyle isn’t bad!
T: It isn’t bad? – I got up early this morning to go to the hairdresser… and look! Now I look the same as before!
E. Calm down, you’ll dry it and everything will work out.
T: What’s that?
E: My dress for Valerio’s wedding.
T: I want to see it, show it! — uuuuh, how beautiful. One of my favorites! It must have cost you an eye and a half!
E: (incredulous) no, it didn’t… why?
T: What do you mean, why? It’s a super famous brand, it costs a fortune!
E: Eeehh… I really wouldn’t know. It was a gift.
T: A gift??? From whom???
E: Eeeh… from someone…
[to Esther’s relief, they get interrupted]
…
Scene 2
[Esther, Rocco and Teresa at the reception desk – classic Gissip Central moment!]
T: But who made you that gift? Perhaps even Aldo…
E: Eh, no, it’s someone I’m just getting to know.
T: well, yes, but who is it?
E: But it’s none of your concern…
T: Oh yes. Where did you meet him, what does he do for a living…
R: yes, yes, yes. The favorite pajamas and the shoe size…
T: Rocco, I’m just curious!
R: Ha, you said it.
[Teresa, laughing, walks off]
E: [to Rocco] Thank you.
…
Scene 3
[Marina and Esther]
E: Marina…
M: Yes?
E: Are you out of your mind? How did get the idea to give me such a dress?
M: Why?
E: What do you mean, why? Who knows how much you’ll have paid for it!
M: Eeeexactly. Who knows?
E: But like this you’re making me feel uncomfortable. I will never be able to give you a gift like that!
M: [looking at the vending machine] Do you want something?
E: No. Thanks.
M: Listen, Esther… did you like the dress?
E: Of course I like it. It’s gorgeous!
M: Well, then… why does matter what I paid for it?
E: It matters to me. Because I didn’t want you to go out of your way for it, not that much.
M. Listen… why don’t you simply enjoy the gift, and that’s it. Is that so difficult? – And then… if you really want to reimburse me, you could take me up to the lake with you for a weekend… [Esther’s eyes begin to sparkle] …and you could take me out to that little trattoria…
E: That would be wonderful. But I need to invent an excuse to tell my father. Lately he’s been showering me with questions – with whom are you going out, whom are you seeing…
M: And you tell him that you went out with Marina… and sleep at Marina’s…
E: Oh, sure. It seems so easy!
M: But it isn’t easy. – You know, all the friends of my family will be at Valerio’s wedding… and I can’t wait to introduce my new girlfriend to them.
E: Sorry, but… everyone from the hospital will be there. I am not yet ready for…
M: Esther… [she is laughing] Keep your calm… take a deep breath. I’m just kidding. I’m kidding.
E: You were? Oh, don’t make jokes about that with me.
M: Nooo… even if…
[they get interrupted; Marina later has a few scenes with a child]
…
Scene 4
[Esther’s father arrives at the hospital (again), Marina and Esther take care of him.]
E: One more stitch, Papa, and we’re done.
Papa: Dr. Ranieri!
M: Hello, how are you doing?
Papa: Fine, my compliments, you did really excellent work.
M: Thank you.
E: There you go, Papa, you’re all set.
Papa: I’ll get going. [to Marina] Have an eye on my daughter, will you?
M: Oh, sure.
E: But what is it with me now?
Papa: It was to bound to happen that sooner or later she would find herself a new boyfriend.
E. Oh come on… but Papa, what are you saying?
Papa: so many mysteries…
M: Mr. Bruno, you would need to make a distinction in between mysteries, and falsifying information…
Papa: Now even she is in on it. Everybody knows it, except for me! – Well, don’t tell me anything now. Look, it’s nothing bad if you’d find yourself another boyfriend… as long as he’s better than Aldo…
E: Eeh… there is no new man in my life, Papa, I swear!
…
Scene 5
[Esther and her father]
E: Listen, it’s true. There isn’t a new man in my life. But it isn’t true that I’m not in love… I’ve found true love.
Papa: Oh Lord, I’m not understanding anything. You’ll explain to me later at home, all right?
E: Wait. Let’s sit down for a moment…
Papa: But what’s going on?
E: She was with us a while ago…
Papa: Who?
E: Dr. Ranieri. – Marina.
Papa: Yes, and? I’ve seen her.
E: I’m in love with her.
Papa: But what are your saying?!
E: Listen, I know it is crazy. It shouldn’t have happened, but it did happen. – Don’t look at my like that… as if I were a stranger. Look, I am happy. I have never been so happy in my whole life. Really.
[they get interrupted by Rocco. Esther’s father stands up and walks away, Esther runs after him,]
E: Sorry… let’s talk about it, all right? You can’t just walk away like that. Please…
…
Scene 6
[Esther and Rocco in the bathroom]
R: There she is, I knew it. A woman needs to cry, and where does she go? To the bathroom! – What happened?
E: I told my father about me and Marina.
R: So…? – that’s good, isn’t it?
E: I don’t know what to do, because my father hates me now.
R: But why should he hate you? Come one, stop thinking that. [they hug]
E: [joking] Why couldn’t I simply fall in love with you?
R: With me? So for you it’s either a woman and or a married man, a completely normal thing, right? Of course, the married mad is always better, right?
E: What are you talking about, Rocco?
R: I’m just kidding, calm down!
…
Scene 7
[Esther and Marina]
E: Marina… I did it!
M: What?
E: I’ve told my father about you and me.
M: And how did he take it?
E: To tell the truth, he didn’t really ‘take it’. He walked away without saying a single word.
M: I know it’s difficult, but you need to talk to him again. In the end he’ll realize that the most important thin is that you’re happy. – You are happy, aren’t you?
E: [huge smile] And you have to ask me that?
M: [laughing] Uhm… never take anything for granted. – Coffee?
…
Scene 8
[Marina and Esther at the wedding; they talk to Teresa about the courage to love.]
E. Why does it take so much courage to admit to being in love?

Preview for 1×12:
This sneak preview has been made possible thanks to the Italian transcripts by BAM (you rock, girl!). Videos thanks to AuntieCallisto. Header screenshot made possible by the episode trailer uploaded by mary_iena. English translation: mine.
These translations/descriptions/sneak previews are just an Italian finger exercise of mine and try to cover the core scenes of Marina and Esther, which means that there may be video footage in the clips on YouTube that is not covered here. I do, however, try my best to include everything that is essential. There may be occasional glitches or mistakes – feel free to point them out in the comments.

Holy God! Thank you Nordie,BAM, translating asap. You rock girls!
Thanks a lot Nordie and BAM!!
Thanks a lot to my favourite two girls: Nordie and BAM! I hope everything is fine in your respective nice corners of the world!
apropos Chinese board: very cute (and very well drawn!) Marina/Esther pencil comic by sadcat here.
darn, now if I only knew what they were saying…
video footage of the last scenes can be found here, while I am waiting for confirmation whether AuntieCallisto will also upload the last scenes to embed.
Very cute indeed, Chinese? No problem.

M: Hmm, I’m a bit tired
grid 4
M: You are too cute…I must…
grid 5
M: Must not let others see you!
@Lang: always a pleasure to see you around!
Thank you so much for translating. Now the comisc are even cuter. My favorite would also be Esther discovering Marina in a cloud of butterflies with the Esther Doll in her coat pocket…
thank you very much for the translation!
Considering how huge the world wide web is, it’s supposedly small since I keep ‘bumping’ into my fav fanfic writer Nordica
Came here from Auntiecallisto’s vids of Marina and Esther, thanks for the translation guys x
@Kit: perhaps it is the shared taste for classy pediatricians…?
Lovely to see you around here, too!
I think Esther’s father accepted the news quite well…of course we don’t know yet if he had a heart attack on his way home
@Nova: let’s hope not… he is so adorable when talking to Marina. Also, we don’t need Esther with a chip on her shoulder the size of Alaska.
I LOVE this show. Thanks for the translations.
Long Live TdU.
@sammie: …continuation sometime tonight!!
