Mezzo Bits: DiDonato on the web, Composer in Toledo, Kasarova in Zermatt

• As blogged by the mezzo herself, ever web-prolific Joyce DiDonato (if only my BA computer teacher would have had half her webskills!), now also recent double Grammophone Award winner (for best recital and singer of the Year), has relaunched her website. It’s a clean look, less red and more white, with all social media neatly tied in. Now if only more of our favorites would embrace the web and all its possibilities to build a solid fanbase through it like this…

• As reported by La Cieca, there’s a live video braodcast of Strauss’ “Ariadne auf Naxos” on tonight, courtesy of operamusicbroadcast. And by tonight I meant tonight, since for central Europeans, it starts at 1 a.m. So if you can’t sleep… well, Ariadne can’t, either. The company featured is Toledo Opera (that would be Toledo, Ohio and not Toledo, Castilla-La Mancha); more information on the production can be found here. Putting on the Composer’s garb is Stacey Rishoi. Further on the mezzo list: Sarah Helzel as Dryade.

• Finally, Smorg, also known as President of the Kasarovian Republic, made my morning a lot more sunny with this collection of Kasarova photos from the 2010 Zermatt festival, made by Marc Kronig. Who can guess the arias from the poses?!
