Kasarova Romeo Livestream from Munich

After the boys got their Brokeback Onegin, the White Shirts are getting a free video livestream performance of “I Capuleti e i Montecchi” with Kasarova as Romeo from Bayerische Staatsoper. The date is May 19th, 7 p.m. (GMT+1). I will be hosting another live blog session for the event, so starch your finest white shirt and bring your tissues and the smelling salts along!

I first saw the news via Intermezzo this morning, Eyes and Smorg have also sent alerts. Do not miss! I don’t know for how much longer Kasarova will sing this kind of belcanto repertory, since she is mocing more towards the dramatic ultimately, so let’s catch this while we can – the door may be cloed on a full staged Sesto already, but this Lacroix Romeo is still in our lucky stars.

Thank you in advance, Munich!

Yves Abel will be conducting, the full cast includes Anna Netrebko as Giulietta, Dimitri Pittas as Tebaldo, Ante Jerkunica as Capellio and, as Lorenzo, Paul Gay. Word!

  1. There is much unseemly squealing this side of the channel. Do we sense a video in the offing?

  2. i guess a girl can’t ask for too much… though i’d like to toss out Yves Abel and bring in Marcelo Viotti :-) . won’t be able to join the gang here coz ! will be there *live*, weeee.

  3. Oh Eyes…. don’t give us the prospect of the moon when we have the stars, it’s too much… A video!!! But of course…Trebs and Lacroix and VK, surely they can see that would be a big seller. Please Goddess of the White Shirts, make it so.

And an Anik live blog. Can life get any better?

Dr T – think you could summon up a Xena war cry at the curtain call? Little shout out to the gang ;)

  4. [...] with chirps of live streams, weeeee.  All info can be found either at Smorgy‘s place, Anik‘s place, Intermezzo‘s, email (via sharp Eyes), Bayerische Staatsoper’s website, [...]

  5. Been chirping and squealing all day myself… now passing it on to the folks on the other side of the Pacific. It’s the white shirts brand of white noise! ;D

  6. btw, Dolchev posted an audio of VK and La Stoyanova doing the Lisa – Paulina duet from Pique Dame today ( http://dolchev.livejournal.com/118532.html ).

  7. You know, I love living in Australia – except at times like this when streaming concert will occur at 4am local time. Everyone have an extra squeal for me!!!!

    • Smorgy mentioned virual mocca – so if you have an acute case of La Sonnambula…

  8. A cute Sonnambula:

  9. Greetings from Anna/Giulietta posted this morning!

  10. Just finished watching the performance – what unrelieved gloom this set! – and even the costumes – except for Nebtrenko’s frothy slip but the voices were glorious! – and the interviews in the intermission were great too. What a surprise – Kasarova’s girlish speaking voice – and her lovely nature – so unprepossessing and humble. Thank you for letting me know about this performance. I loved it beginning to end.

    • glad to hear you enjoyed it! How about you join us next time in the live blog and comment away with us, if you’d like? OPen invitation standing!

      • Thank you for your kind invitation! I love reading all the wise and witty comments here, and to feel the love and enthusiasm they express. – But you know, I am way behind all you opera mavens in the ability to know and appreciate the medium except perhaps at an intuitive and emotional level, and anything I might say would only serve to display my ignorance and annoy my betters!
Did I understand Kasarova to say in her interview, something along the lines of she enjoyed better singing with others than alone? If so, how lovely it was of her to say such a thing….
        Cheers,
        Dia

        • yes, that is exactly what she said! (is there no limit to your array of languages?)
And please do join us next time – we all appreciate the shows on an emotional level first and foremost. And though some of us are a bit more into the theory and/or practice of music and singing in addition, it is my primary goal to create a friendly, non-snobby space where every fellow listener will feel welcome and at ease.

  11. Thank you again – you are most kind, though you, Dear Doctor, are the genuine linguist here!
I really don’t know German, though I understand a little. Perhaps I will put it on my ‘to-do’ list and get to work finding a tutor. I found that when I was watching the broadcast I could not listen to the Italian because my eye kept going to the German sub-titles. I think one of the reasons some of us run into difficulties with other languages is because we are eye rather than ear-driven, and the best way to internalise language is through the ear.
At any rate, I will be checking in here often, because I enjoy my visits enormously, and feel a growing affection for you and your friends and guests.
    Cheers,
    Dia.
