No, it’s not Sesto tonight, but it’s Connolly live from the concert hall of Hessischer Rundfunk, inaugurating their new format “Barock plus”. It’s a Handel, Rameau and Rebel program with Connolly singing two arias from Handel’s “Ariodante” (“Scherza, infida” and “Dopo notte”) and Dejanera’s “Where shall I fly?” scene from Handel’s “Hercules”.
The live broadcast starts at 8.05 p. m. (GMT+1), live stream access here.
And if you’re looking for a mezzo to spend your Saturday evening with you, how about Alice Coote? CBC2 is broadcasting a taped “Ariadne auf Naxos” (production of the Welsh National Opera presented at the COC in May 2011) with Alice Coote as Composer and my current favorite Ariadne, Adrianne Pieczonka, in the title role – Strauss sound that is creamier than any ice-cream could ever hope to be.
The broadcast starts at 6 p.m. (GMT+1), live stream access here.
And just because it bears repeating: Pieczonka.
