White Shirt Monday: Crinkle, crinkle, little shirt…

wsm crinkle nerone[I’m guessing the Emperor is about to head to the dry cleaner’s. – Charlotte Hellekant (Nerone) and Ingela Bohlin (Poppea) in Monteverdi’s “L’incoronazione di Poppea”, Drottningholm 2009.- Photo Credit: Bo Ljungblom, via dn.kultur]

As was just pointed out to me, the White Shirt mezzos do not always have to deal with swooning sopranos, some are a lot more hands-on. There might be some ironing needed (in this context, I might point to Root & Shaw for handling that particular inclination), but who cares? I vote for equal opportunity swooning (on a related matter: Hellekant is singing at Berliner Staatsoper in July (La Messagiera in the Sasha Waltz choreoraphy/staging) and damn if that isn’t one appealing headshot).
