This week in “famed former Carmens doing more interesting stuff now”: Julia Migenes (in Poulenc’s “La voix humaine”) and Vesselina Kasarova (Judit in “Bluebeards’s Castle”). Thanks to Smorgy for alerting me to it!

The Staatstheater Wiesbaden is currently doing a double feature with both operas and both singers. The production opened last night and will run through Midsummer (April 25th, June 3rd, 10th, 14th, 21st), in case you’re looking to prove the old adage that sometimes, the really interesting stuff happens off Broadoperaway.

  1. My absolute pleasure, Anik! 😀 Hearing some rave reports of the Blaubart premiere already. I hope Wiesbaden is at least making a house video tape of it. Fingers crossed and knocking on woods!

  2. cutting and pasting a VK’s fan’s comment on opening night:
“It was absolutely amazing. Her vocal & stage performance lacked nothing. It was intense and absolutely thrilling. Now I’ve been a fan for many years, but if I hadn’t been, I would have become one after tonight’s premiere. You could feel and see that she was happy with herself and the whole team. Everybody Else did great work, too. Successful premiere in a non-sold out house. The audience went crazy.”

    1. thank you for sharing that quote!
Everything I have managed to read also sounds enthusiastic. Propos to such a small house to pulling off such a production. I hope the rest of the run is sold out!
