[So, how about some Mozart? It is “Idomeneo” again and I may have a thing for another Idamante. See above: Marianne Crébassa and buttons are really only an adornment not meant to be used and how do you Anne Hathaway and OH MY all around. – The 2012 Mozart Gala with Marc Minkowski and Les Musciciens de Louvre, Paris 2012.]
The entire concert is one big spa stay for your mind. All Mozart, all pretty damn wonderful. Also, with a Mozart Allstars crew: Véronique Gens with the second Fiordiligi! Mireille Delunsch as Donna Anna, and as Papagena (a riot)! Anna Bonitatibus in flowing tragédienne locks with “Ch’io mi scordi di te”! Julia Lezhneva popping in for a “Soave sia il vento”, Philippe Jaroussky taking on “Voi che sapete” (which is beautifully, very intellegently sung… but I still miss my woman-in-pants moment there because I am shallow) and then there is the quartet from “Idomeneo.”
Start at the 44’00 mark and prepare to have a new mezzo crush five minutes later. Hot damn that rounded, warm sound. Hot damn those little epaulettes. Hot damn I will never be over Idamante as an allegory of queerness.
Hello, Marianne Crébassa. And by hello I mean welcome to my personal Mezzo Hot 100.
And if that is still not enough (unless you have already settled in to watch the whole thing, which you should, since everyone sings beautifully and there are a lot of talented up-and-comings involved), go to 2’07’45.
But don’t say I didn’t warn you, because damn.
