[…just as an inexplicable desire makes us keep talking about opera. We get you, Cherubino. Though I am not sure how many of us would still command coherent speech in that situation? – Clearly a pro: Marianne Crébassa (Cherubino) in Mozart’s “Le nozze di Figaro”, Amsterdam 2016]
Closing out this year’s liveblog summer festival (though there will be single events throughout autumn – at the moment, it looks like “Semiramide” might go down on Oct 8th) is the new “Nozze di Figaro” from Amsterdam in the David Bösch staging, available as of today as a stream on demand on ARTE. Our watching event with running commentary will happen this Friday, Sept. 30th, at 9 p.m. (UTC+2) – on Amsterdam time. Everyone interested in commenting or reading along is, as always, invited to do so.
Singers include Marianne Crébassa as Cherubino, Christiane Karg as Susanna, Eleonora Buratto as Countess and Stéphane Degout as Count. Production info can be found here, a delightful read of a review here at backtrack.
Personally, I am in favor of the Monochrome Bleu approach to Cherubino – speaking of works of art one would always nail to one’s wall (can’t go wrong with that particular Yves Klein).
