White Shirt Monday: Barceheart

[Feeling somewhat off kilter? Still not quite over the Munich “Semiramide”? – Here, have some more Daniela Barcellona, here as Malcolm in Rossini’s “La donna del lago”, London/Roh 2013.]

On a White Shirt note, the aria title probably is “Plaid, of fabric of my people”, and isn’t it amazing how the appeal of Scottish dudes with longswords and sort-of-mullet hair is skyrocketing if you take out Mel Gibson and insert a mezzo instead?

Apropos, in a celebration of early Barcellona fangirling days, this week’s liveblog will feature the  2005 Florence “Tancredi” (fair warning head: it’s a Pizzi staging).

    1. Apropos Mezzo heroes: Rumors that Vienna Staatsoper (?) might mount an Ariodante in Mar 2018 with Dumaux as Polinesso?
(Who would conduct? And please, cast a mezzo in the lead… which, in some scenarios, might lead to another standing room week, thadieu? 😉 )

      1. I bet he’ll be a very mean Polinesso, and may also belong to the few people who could get away with the jeans vest, I guess? (while I don’t think Staatsoper will feature jeans vests?)
(I’m currently with Malcolm’s first aria in the MET version and try to suppress some foolish giggling at this showing off in the kilt).

        1. Probably no jeans vest. Probably rather kilts than jeans vests! Dumaux is singing Polinesso right now in Stuttgart, and a friend who went says heisa a fabulous menace in the role. I’m still thinking about whether I could find a research excuse for a short Stuttgart trip…

          1. It’s Wieler/Morabito, so I’m in. Which also reminds me that we need to schedule THE Alcina at some point.

Shades of red… We should alert towanda.

          2. ja, am back now to ACA’s in 2nd duet in Semiramide. sniff. (though the person who put it together clearly didn’t know this piece well at all.. he *cut* the first duet, and put the 2nd duet in twice..)
(ps- sent you a head banging but very short email..)

          5. Would LOVE that broadcast , thank you!
Dislike Bots?! Well, you’ve done something right when people will spend that much energy on cheat-smearing you.
(Don’t we have any production left we could watch in positive celebration soon?)

          2. At the moment I seem to only be able to accept JDD at DB’s side, so maybe I’m unfairly counter-imposed towards Tankova, that’s why I was asking…

      1. Yes, Takova, the other one is alos on YT in full, but it is frightening costumes indeed and also I think the directing advise was something like “move as little and slow as possible”, is that how traditional Italian stagings work?
