Mezzo Alert: DiDonato’s “In War & Peace” live from the Liceu

This evening (June 4th, 6 p.m., UTC+2), DiDonato#s “In War & Peace” program will be video-streamed live from Liceu Barcelona, thanks to ARTEConcert.
– So far, it is only announced on the French edition of the site, but as long as one languge works, no matter which one, we’ll be fine (#PentecoastalSpirit). If you haven’t seen this program yet: make some time for it. I would say it strongly profits from a live setting in-house experience, but it should still transport much of DiDonato’s intentions via a screen.

      1. yes, exactly – when I went to the concert I felt a bit blasè even, didn’t know what to expect. And then it just blew me away. And she was even hampered by an infection, which she told us afterwards.

          2. Will Petibon be on replay? (Should be, if it is France musique…?)

(Casually lurking at dehggi’s regarding the Prina fangirling, too)

          4. (jeah, i read up, but she’s not killed! she died from giving birth. still, first she just got “absorbed” by the guy, with guy’s mentality “i rescued her” , like she has a choice not to marry him. then, when she has her own feelings, that’s why possessive guy with low self esteem masked it as “jealousy” and kill own brother. then she died giving birth while still being emotionally abused by guy trying to get a “confession” out of her…)

          5. perfect summary.

I expect PP to manage a portrayal of “okay, I’m dying not you’re not taking my inner independence”, though 😉 Much like her Manon!

          6. am downloading Mélisande (I think, at least it is downloading something) as I type this. I can so see Petibon as Mélisande next to a well giving cryptic answers.

          7. I cannot wait to get my hands/ears on that. Should be a fantastic fit with her approach.

          8. both should be on replay. Tried the link I sent earlier of Petibon now and it plays from the beginning. DiDonato is downloadable. Times really have changed for the better 😉

          9. also, pure joy in a white shirt and vest, and her hair was shorter in November, too, and it was just another level of ‘home space’ at a date where we all – as Ed says – really needed it.

  1. This couldn’t have come on a more momentous day – to heal ones heart after the horrendous events of the past months that try the human soul. Thank you to Anik for keeping us informed and sharing such a gift from these amazing artists. Watching from Colorado in the US – I didn’t feel small – I felt included with the world and a part of something greater. A part of humankind – Peet and the three Whisketeers

    1. Peet and the Whisketeers! Wonderful! It is so good to know you are still out there, all of you. And sharing experiences like this one with us.

(I saw this briefly after the November elections, and it resonated deeply)

          1. but does Emelyanychev play cornetto? Or are you talking about someone else? (double instrument skills seem to abound in that band!)

        1. Wasn’t he on harpsichord? Did he change to a virginal? Sorry, don’t remember – will check later when the Valkyries won’t start asking for “videos, because Ma is watching some, too!”

  2. This concert was such a balm when I saw it live in November. Such a wonderful, beautiful project, and a thoughtful and creative way to stage a concert performance. It was truly a piece of art. 45 had just been elected (as a citizen of the upstairs neighbor it was still very troubling), and then we had our baby, and I found myself at the Orpheum as a bleary eyed new parent holding all these feelings, which the concert somehow managed to encapsulate. There are four or five Big Artistic Experiences that I would say have changed my life, or marked a moment, and the that was one of them.

  3. Basically I cried through the whole thing. But apparently JDD did too, so I’m in good company. ❤

And the Morgen…I may never recover. And that was just from watching online! I can't even imagine the experience in person.

    1. The connection she has struck up with that particular song is magic. I’ve heard her sing it live twice as encores (because I got so very lucky), and both times, it did something to the entire room, I would not be able to put it into words. She is channeling and carrying so much hope and also vulnerability there (what we talked about with ‘how are the true happily ever afters won and what do they look like? Sometimes it is appreciating the sunlight on your scars and simply ‘still being there’), I salute her ability to draw that kind of energy time and again, and share it so generously with her audiences.

    2. Hi FierceRev, didn’t even know anybody else was watching it .. let alone having this wonderful conversation! About ‘Morgen’ – when she did it in Berlin there was THAT silence afterwards, 2 seconds at least, if not more. And then the whole house came down. She cried a bit then too.

        1. that is the core point, isn’t it? It may be the same program, but all over the world, people report that it is NEVER sung as “same old”. She really puts herself out there every night ‘creating’ in that do-peace way.

  4. Every single person I talked to about the show so far has has been completely over the moon with the recorder player! ❤ as if more reasons were needed to love Augelletti.
